5 out of 5 stars Great Knife, Excellent Value   March 11, 2010
D. Corman (Maine, USA)
I normally won't write a review until I've had something for some time. It seems pointless to rate something with which you've had no practical experience. However, in the 12 hours that I have had this knife, I have tested it and used in in more "experimental" applications than most other blades I've owned. After 6 hours, I took my SOG Flash 2 out of my pocket, oiled it for storage and put it away.

This S&W is extremely well crafted, feels great in your hand (it's heavy, but it feels right), it comes sharpened with a razor sharp edge and looks great. It feels like a $60 knife and I paid $16.50, with free shipping.

Only 1 negative... There is no lock to keep it closed. It has a large(1/4" dia) knurled disc to assist with opening, and potentially could open unintentionally in your pocket or belt line if the disc catches on something. (Probably why I should wait on my review)

However, because of the value and craftmanship, I let it keep its 5th star.

For $16.50, a knife of this quality is a steal!

Additional Features:
Seatbelt/paracord cutter has its own blade, it does not utilize the knife blade. Hardened tip for breaking automobile glass, and the belt clip is long enough and tight enough to clip securely to any pocket , belt or even military style web-gear.
Comes in a sealed plastic pouch inside a cardboard box. No sheath is included.

5 out of 5 stars High quality knife   February 25, 2010

This is a great knife. The quality is exceptional, and there is no play in the the blade when open. The 440c stainless steel is perfect, because I abuse my knives. So far this knife has handled everything I have thrown at it and surpassed my expectations.

5 out of 5 stars High quality.   February 24, 2010

Very high quality knife. Opens and closes with ease - very heavy - not flimsy and cheap. Hopefully it will last a long time.
I'm a cop in Vermont and I bought this knife because we respond to a lot of accidents and I liked the glass breaking tip and the seat belt cutting tool. The serrated edge is also nice.

5 out of 5 stars Great Value - Very Well Made   February 4, 2010

What prompted me to look at "First Responder Knives" was my wife's wish for me to purchase her one of those "Emergency Hammers" that can break the window and cut a seatbelt so you can get out of a wreck. Rather than get her something that might not ever be used, or be difficult to swing in a damaged and wrecked car, I thought the ideal solution would be a First Responder Knife. The SWFRS has a clip which can be clipped to a visor within reach if the car rolls, and will hold it in place. It can be held firmly in her hand (it is slightly small for me, since I have large hands, but still can be held comfortably and securely in mine.) A simple swing and it will shatter an automotive glass window with the strong metal tip. The seatbelt cutter appears to be easy to use and very sharp. The knife blade is large and locks into place firmly. My wife can open the knife with her thumb one handed quite easily too, and the lock mechanism (a liner lock) works well and again is easy for her to use, and she has no worries of the blade closing on her fingers. From my point of view I really like this knife (we bought two, one for each car). It is very well made, and appears that it could be totally disassembled with torx bits and hex wrenches. The knife blade opens smoothly with a snap role of my thumb, and locks into place and feels like a solid piece of steel. The pocket clip works well, and is bent over in such a way that pocketing it should not loosen the screws. As for the size, it fits my hand fairly well, and like one of the reviews stated "it begs to be held." The black portion, the stock, appears to be zytex. The blade is sharp too. It is very well designed. If Smith and Wesson is reading this, glow in the dark plastic stocks would be an even nicer touch.

The only thing I do not like about the knife is the serrated edge. If used, it should keep its edge for a long time, except serrated edges cannot be sharpened easily. However, this knife is better made than knives I have paid $80 for. I highly recommend this product. It is well made, thoughtfully designed, and inexpensive enough so you could put one in every car you own.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Value !!   January 24, 2010

Rugged, well built knife. Perfect features for carrying every day, and slim enough to slip inside the waistband. Blade is very sharp, smooth one handed opening, hefty and large enough for self defense. This knife is put together well, with no rivets and all quality fasteners. Locking mechanism could be nicer, but is effective. After looking over this knife, I would easily pay 2x as much.
